| A special tribute to Timothy Eaton, one of Canada's greatest entrepreneurs on the 125th anniversary of his first department store. On December 8, 1869 Timothy Eaton opened the doors of his first store at 178 Yonge street in Toronto. To commemorate the 125th anniversary we proudly offer this pure silver $50 coin On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1994 Canada Post released a commemorative stamp designed by Louis Fishauf to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the opening of the "First Store". In recognition of World Wild Life Fund Canada and for their conservation work the panda design was used on the 3rd coin in the series. To bring more awareness to the fine work that WWF CANADA is doing and to help raise revenue for their many projects, a percentage of each WWF coin sold would be donated to the fund. Coins were negotiated in trade at any Eaton store across Canada. Darnell Inc. redeemed Eatons at face value each coin that was put into circulation. Darnell acted as banker for these coins till Eatons was put into bankruptcy by Sears. |

| This project was proposed to the T. Eaton Co. by M. Darnell operator of the Stamp & Coin concessions in Montreal, Toronto, and Calgary. Under contract with Eatons Darnell distributed these coins across Canada and any coins that were redeemed for merchandise were purchased by Darnell from Eatons for full price to be re-sold (re-cycled) again to collectors and consumers. In other words Darnell acted as a bank for Eatons with this project. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
